The long-life package is made of several layers: paper, aluminium and plastic. Together they prevent light, air and micro-organisms from reaching the food in order to prevent deterioration.Protection against light is important since light destroys the vitamins in foods such as milk and juice. The oxygen in the air produces a reaction in the food called oxidation, which may cause change in taste and colour. Air also carries microorganisms.
